The mods at [livejournal.com profile] hearts_andminds were nice enough to leave up a tag for me long enough for me to snag my Data threads. I regret that I missed the Spock and Lore ones, but these were the most important.

Thread List )

I suppose this needs to be my adieu so I can resist the temptation to return. I'll avoid mentioning it beyond this point outside of AU necessity, and look back on my threads fondly. Parting is such sweet sorrow, but necessary sometimes.

I am Become Death - Franklin Thatcher

This story is about how after hundreds of years, Data developed his own emotions without use of his emotion chip, and to remedy his loneliness he builds more androids. And those androids end up overrunning the Galaxy and he grows to resent them, especially the ones that had never actually met humans.

This is a good solid case of love love love the premise of a story, hate hate hate how it's written. It's got a few descriptive issues I can't get behind, and some phrasing I find questionable. But that can be argued away as Data becoming a more organic thinker. My biggest problem with it is that it's in first person, and that's flat out silly from the perspective of a being with sixty trillion thought processes a second.

But still, the premise is good, I actually feel bad for at least one of his children, and it's a great example of him becoming more time intuitive. I actually prefer this to the crap that I thought "Star Trek: Countdown" was.

The file is a .cbr file, meaning you either need CDisplay or ComicRack. If you have neither, then download and change the file extension to ".zip" and unzip it to view the JPegs straight.

Head-Canon Meme

1. Data did fool around some with other female officers before coming to the Enterprise, though Tasha was the first one that reciprocated the act rather than have him service her.

2. I ignore the relationship with Rhea McAdams, because the character was a horrifying Mary Sue. It was irritating. If she had been Rayna Kapec, it would have been easier to accept.

3. I can't acknowledge B-4 Data as Data, as he seems to go against everything Data stood for in AI rights.

4. He's "passively dominant". He doesn't need to prove himself in control, yet he keeps himself in control. Whereas he's mostly portrayed by fans as being meek.

5. His sexuality is vaguely addressed in the series that he was programmed with a variety of techniques. His mother believed that he was possibly sleeping with Troi, but the idea of sleeping with someone never occurs to him. Which makes me think he has no true sexuality, but he was only programmed originally to service women.

6. Data could have developed emotions on his own after time as his system adapted, and had what resembled emotions latently.

7. He could never be happy for an extended period of time with an artificial life form, because even though humans die he has too much of an appreciation for them to find another android a superior companion. Though he wouldn't be above pairing with an immortal human or transferring the human intelligence of his companion into an android body.

8. He could have actually had a relationship with Ard'rian McKenzie, but by the time he sought out her file when he had an emotion ship she had moved on.

9. He and his brother have sensory addictions. When presented with more powerful organic reactions, it would be the equivalent of a sexual or drug induced rush. He can be tempted to do the wrong thing when presented with the offer of feeling more.

10. He despises death. Loathes it. If he hadn't had the means for a memory transfer to B-4, he probably would have found a way to store the logs of the crew and escaped the ship before the Scimitar fired. Not because he wouldn't have cared, but he wouldn't have wanted to lose all the other memories stored in his head.

Romulan Disguise

I completely forgot about the portion of Unification Part 1 where Data is disguised as a Romulan.

Also note what an intense looking Romulan Picard is.
